Lucara Diamond Corp, the British Colombia diamond producer, recorded successful results with a total of 274.33 carats recovered from the processing of 5,916 tonnes in a mini-bulk sampling on BK02 kimberlite located 30 km east of the Karowe mine in Botswana.

The Toronto, Botswana and NASDAQ OMX Stockholm listed company made public these results that saw a sample grade of 4.6 cpht, in an exploration update issued June 13 on its wholly own and main producing asset Karowe project.

It is reported that the largest diamond recovered was a 5.48 carat brownish octahedron, while a total of 24 stones were recovered greater than 1 carat in weight including 3 diamonds in excess of 2 carats.

"The results from the completion of the first bulk sample of the BK02 kimberlite are very encouraging and an important milestone for Lucara”, William Lamb, President and CEO, commented.

Mr. Lamb said the completion of this sample together with the ongoing exploration of the prospecting licenses and the commencement of a deep drilling on the south lobe opens up the opportunities for Lucara to fulfil its commitment to the expansion of the resource base in the Orapa district of Botswana.

Orapa region is a diamantiferous area where Botswana Diamonds and the Russian diamond leader Alrosa are active, through a joint-venture Sunland Minerals, on a series of exploration permits that cover roughly 1,359.9 km2.
