The Ancuabe graphite mine and associated processing plant were brought back into operation under a total funding of 12 million Euros after several years of inactivity.

President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, on Wednesday, presided over the back into activity ceremony, reviving the mine and the 9,000 tonne capacity processing plant in the Ancuabe district that suffered over a decade of political unrest.

The German company AMG Graphit Kropfmuehl, important shareholder in the project, provided the investment, enabling thus the reinstatement and the extension of this graphite project in the mineral rich Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique.

Graphit Kropfmühl GmbH is a member-company of the AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group N.V. and has established itself as a leading graphite specialist.

It won in 2012 the Ancuabe mine project now in operation jointly with the state-owned Mozambican Mining Exploration Company (EMEM).

Northern Mozambique is a graphite and gemstones rich region where the ASX listed company Mustang resources is a second major player with robust graphite and ruby assets in the Cabo Delagado province.

There, the Australian emerging company owns the Balama graphite project consisting of eight exploration licenses totaling over 70,000ha.

Besides, it has four exploration licences covering 19500 ha highly prospective for high-quality ruby and adjacent to a major ruby deposit discovered in 2012 by the British multinational Gemfields Plc, the very major gemstones player.
